I started actually caring what I ate around 2 years ago. Before, I like the thought of eating healthy, but was like 20 years old and had no money of my own.
Now I actually enjoy eating healthy foods! I like the way that it makes me feel (more energized, less bloated), I lost like 10 pounds without even trying, and I feel less hungry.
All it takes is just finding foods that you like to eat that can be your regular foods. Like, I eat the same thing for breakfast pretty much everyday, and have my regular staples that I work into almost every meal.
We go grocery shopping (or at least we should) about every week. So, every time we do, I always just pick up these staples!
So these are the healthy foods I am always getting from the store!
For breakfast, I usually have a half a cup of oatmeal, seasoned with cinnamon, with a chopped up banana, a drizzle of almond butter, and a sprinkle of granola for a little crunch.
So, I go through about a banana a day!
Bananas are obviously healthy, but I especially eat them because the medication I take for my heart can cause a low potassium level. So this ensures that I am getting enough consistently, and if you have never tried bananas and almond butter, you are in for a treat!!
2. Almond Butter
I LOVE almond butter. My family used to be all peanut butter, but I was the first to make the switch.
I never actually really liked peanut butter. It was too sticky and rich. People complain that almond butter is gritty, but I totally don’t mind. I eat this every day! I am proud to say that I have converted my Mom to almond butter!
It’s a really good source of healthy fats and pairs really well with fruits.
I like to eat it with bananas, honey crisp apples, and blueberries. It’s also a great topping for rice cakes if your stomach isn’t well, or multi-grain bread.
3. Sweet Potatoes
I actually recently discovered that I like sweet potatoes. I had never had it without all the sugar and marshmallows, so I was pleasantly surprised when I tried just straight sweet potato!
It’s a healthy carb and a veggie, so very healthy.
My favorite way to cook it is peeled, diced, seasoned with cinnamon, and roast it in the oven at 450 degrees for 20 minutes. They come out a tiny bit crispy and make a really good side to chicken or pork chops.
I have loved blueberries ever since I was a kid! For a few years, we couldn’t get any yummy blueberries because they were all sour (these past 2 years, there are no good strawberries because they are all moldy), but our blueberries have been better!
I love adding them to my breakfast, or putting some on almond butter and rice cakes. They also make really handy and easy snacks!
Blueberries are filled with antioxidants so they are very very good for you!
Fresh pineapple is like my favorite dessert! I love nothing more after dinner than cold pineapple straight from the fridge.
I believe in balance, so you definitely need dessert!
It’s so refreshing and I literally have to pay attention to how much I eat so I don’t get a sore throat!
I get one from the store like every single week!
So those are the healthy foods that I am always getting from the store. We go through these foods the most because we really love them! We also obviously eat more healthy foods than just these 5, but they are the ones that we eat the quickest and most consistently.
Like I said before, eating healthy is actually pretty easy once you 1. know what is and isn’t healthy, and 2. find the foods that you like to eat!
